The municipality of Cabanas is driving forward the development of sustainable tourism. How Cope reports, the Deputación da Coruña has put the construction work for the urbanisation of a new caravan site near the Fragas do Eume Natural Park out to tender again. This step became necessary after the first round of tenders was unsuccessful and no bids were submitted. The project, which aims to create a specific infrastructure for motorhome tourism, has a budget of 92,885.36 euros.
Second round of tenders after unsuccessful start
The need to publish the tender for the urbanisation works for a second time is due to the failure of the original round. The Deputación da Coruña was forced to restart the process in order to ensure the realisation of the planned mobile home area. According to Cope, the creation of this new area is a central part of Cabanas' efforts to strengthen environmentally responsible tourism in the region.
The project is strategically positioned to increase the attractiveness of the Fragas do Eume area for travellers who prefer alternative accommodation. The main objective of the measure is to create a dedicated area suitable for both parking and providing services for motorhomes. This should help to prevent the proliferation of unofficial pitches and at the same time offer a high-quality infrastructure.
Funding and spatial scope of the project
The 92,885.36 euro project is being financed by European funds. Specifically, the measure is supported by funds from the Next Generation EU programme. The integration is part of the Plan for Tourism Sustainability in Destinations (Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística en Destino, PSTD) Fragas do Eume. This specific source of funding emphasises the project's focus on ecological and sustainable development goals in the tourism sector.
The construction work, which has now been put out to tender again, concerns the upgrading of a communal plot in Cabanas. The area earmarked for redevelopment covers almost 6,000 square metres. All the necessary infrastructure is to be created on this site in order to provide motorhome tourists with a fully-fledged contact point. The urbanisation thus includes all the necessary measures to transform the site into a functional pitch that meets the requirements of modern, sustainable tourism. The completion of the works, as reported by Cope, should make a significant contribution to strengthening the tourist infrastructure in the vicinity of the Fragas do Eume Natural Park.
